We are open from Monday to Friday between 10am – 3pm so that you can drop in without appointment whenever suits you best.
Our friendly volunteers and staff will welcome you and are always available to listen, to chat and to brew up – sometimes a mug of tea is a good way to start!
We can offer guidance and information about our own and other local services and if you would like information about specific cancers we will print you the most up to date leaflets or information sheets available from the most relevant resource. If you would like advice on social or welfare benefits and support available we can arrange speedy appointments with specialist services.
You can choose to get involved or just drop in when you feel like a friendly chat.
Listening by trained staff and volunteers is available without appointment during our drop in opening hours.
One to one counselling appointments are available if you would like regular, professional support.
You might like to join one of our peer support groups that meet through the week. We also hold our “elevenses” event on the first Tuesday of each month from 11am which is a chance to call in for a cuppa and a chat, there’s always a slice of cake on offer to go with your tea!
Arts & Crafts Workshops Maybe our monthly Arts and Crafts workshops would help you to relax and learn new skills.. The sessions are facilitated by our skilled volunteers and sometimes local professional craftspeople come along to teach us something wonderful. You could surprise yourself. We also run a creative group each Monday from 11am at The Centre. This is a more informal group than our monthly Art Therapy sessions and participants can try a different activity each week.
We have a monthly Walking Group with trained walk leaders. We support three levels of walker so leaders at each walk will accompany a strolling group, a faster group of walkers and more seasoned walkers who enjoy a speedier pace. Whichever group you join all walkers will come together for a meal after their exertions so there is a very social element to the exercise. This group runs between March and October, there are no walks from November to February due to the more unpredictable weather.
We try to offer a wide range of free therapy opportunities to our members to help you to look after yourself and relax. At the moment we are able to book appointments for reflexology, reiki, hypnotherapy and beauty therapies.
Tai Chi Classes are held every Friday at Norton Fields on Liverpool Road, Widnes We have a beginners class from 12.30 to 1.30 and a “next steps” more advanced class for 2pm to 3pm. These classes offer gentle and mindful exercise which can be performed from a seated position if necessary.
Mindfulness Matters Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present moment, using techniques like meditation and breathing. This practice helps us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings so instead of being overwhelmed by them, we are better able to manage them.
We are delighted to offer an 8 week Mindfulness course which run from the centre between 6pm and 8pm on a Tuesday evening, we also periodically offer a Saturday course too, please contact The Centre for more information or to book a place on the next available course.
The course costs of £80 for 8 weeks. (Limited places available) A deposit of £30 will be required to secure your place.
